Today I started reading the book The Purpose Driven Church by Rick Warren. After a few paragraphs in, he gave the thought, “The church should not be praying ‘God, bless what we are doing.’ Instead, the prayers should be ‘God, let us be a part of what You are blessing!” Wow!
What if we transferred this simple thought into our everyday lives? Many times it seems that we always want God to bless what we are doing, but has God told us to do what we are doing? Praying this could take our whole lives into a completely different dimension in our walk with Christ! I long to be right smack in the middle of what God is doing. I want God to use me for His glory. Not my own.
James 4:3 And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure.
By wanting God to bless everything we do, are we saying that God does not know what He is doing. By praying what God wants, it forces us to TRUST Him and not rely on our thoughts and pleasures.
What are some things that we may expect God to bless, but we haven’t asked His counsel?
